Rudyard Griffiths signs with Douglas & McIntyre

Vancouver, Canada (PRWeb) March 9, 2007 -- Douglas & McIntyre is pleased to announce that it will publish Rudyard Griffiths's first book, Who We Are: A Citizen's Manifesto, in spring 2008. Publisher Scott McIntyre says, "We are absolutely delighted to have landed this book, against stiff competition. Rudyard's vision for Canada--and a reinvigorated sense of shared citizenship--is timely, passionate and compelling. The right manifesto for the right moment in our history."

In Who We Are: A Citizen's Manifesto, Griffiths implores Canadians to take the responsibilities and duties of citizenship seriously or risk sliding into mediocrity. Whether it is meeting head-on the challenges of globalization, fixing our failing immigration system, or addressing declining citizen participation, Griffiths argues that Canadians must engage in a massive assertion of the civic knowledge, institutions, traditions and values that define our shared citizenship. The book sets out a provocative action plan for Canada to re-fashion itself into a "citizen-centred" nation capable of tackling the social and cultural issues that will define the country's journey through the opening decades of the century.

Recognized recently by the Globe & Mail as one of Canada's Top 40 under 40, Griffiths is the founder and executive director of the Dominion Institute, a national non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of history and shared citizenship. He is also the co-founder of the Grano Series, which brings prominent thinkers to Toronto to discuss international issues affecting Canada. He is an advisor to the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. and sits on a variety of boards including the Stratford Festival, Right Honorable Adrienne Clarkson's Institute for Canadian Citizenship and the UK-based Ditchley Foundation. Educated in the Ontario public school system and at the University of Toronto, Griffiths holds a Masters of Philosophy from Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He is a columnist with the Toronto Star and a regular commentator on CityPulse24. He lives in Toronto.

Who We Are will be published in March 2008, accompanied by a national tour by the author.
